I do mentor a child. On our second meeting I told him what three qualities I stand for. Next I had him pick three qualities that wants to be known for. He chose being friendly, being honest, and being fit. So we work on those all the time. The other one that I slip in quite often that he doesn't know.. is personal responsibility. In this day in age it's so rare it makes me sick.

I think it's best to ask the child what they would like to become - it makes it a ton more easy! You can slip other things in as well. However, if they choose, they're more likely to succeed. :)
