Apply for financial aid at fafsa.gov - If you have a college in mind find out what their FAFSA code is. The college should send you an award letter telling you what kind of assistance you got, both loans (pay back) and grants (no payback). Cancel the loans through the financial aid office.

The biggest grant you should get is the Pell Grant, then there is the SEOG (Title IV) grant...there might also be state grants you can get depending on what state you live in. There are also scholarships you can apply for, both through the college and in your community. Do be careful about your credit hours when you register for classes; your grants depend on whether you're full time or part time (part time = less money).

P.S. APPLY EARLY!!!! The earlier you apply, the more money you'll get! And once you're in college keep your grades up - your grants depend on your grades.
