LOL...I hope you're kidding. Almost as funny...are some of the answers so far. First of all Helium is an inert gas. It is impossible for it to bond with anything. It IS non toxic. Secondly you can't de-oxygenate your blood cause the red blood cells won't bind the Helium to the iron which holds the oxygen. Carbon monoxide on the other hand will. It attaches right where the oxygen does. Last but not least...it IS of course possible for you to die if you only breath pure Helium long enough due to Oxygen deprivation. Sure it's fun to do for a minute or two, but when your done talking funny, go out side and get some nice fresh air. Any Oxygen deprivation causes some brain cell death so keep that in mind while you still have one.

LOL...i am hoping you're kidding. very in simple terms about as humorous...are countless the concepts so a strong distance. interior the start Helium is an inert gas. that isn't achievable for it to bond with something. that is non poisonous. Secondly you may want to not de-oxygenate your blood reason the purple blood cells gained't bind the Helium to the iron which holds the oxygen. Carbon monoxide on the diverse hand will. It attaches excellent the position the oxygen does. very last yet not least...that is of direction a probability so that you would die in case you basically breath organic and organic Helium lengthy adequate by using way of Oxygen deprivation. certain that is interesting to do for a minute or 2, yet even as your done speaking humorous, bypass out section and get some severe impressive sparkling air. Any Oxygen deprivation motives some concepts cellular death so save that by skill of the time of concepts on an same time as you inspite of the actuality which have one.

Helium isn't toxic. There's no theoretical limit to the amount you can breathe in and survive. The main problem is what else is in the atmosphere with the helium. If the only thing in the air you're breathing is helium, then you're gonna be lacking a few things, like oxygen perhaps, that your body usually finds pretty essential for survival. Breathing nothing but helium, I suspect you wouldn't last more than a few minutes.
Another problem is pressure. If you are breathing helium out of a pressurized container, you may end up getting a LOT of helium very very quickly. That could rupture your lungs and give you some major pain and aggravation. That could easily happen in milliseconds.

As you a re depriving your body and brain of oxygen, it all depends. I am sure your brain cells are st rti g to go and you will so n not be se ing all the let ers in words or sentanc s!
Why would you want to put your life at risk?
Perhaps you should seek help from a medical professional and counselor to find out why you indulge in self destructive behavior.

It depends on if you would be breathing normal air if you passed out.
If you are just breathing it out of a balloon you will only do minor brain damage.
If you where in a room filled with helium you would be dead in a few minutes.

If you are breathing helium concentrated enough you will deoxygenate your blood. But your breathing is triggered by carbon dioxide, which will be low, so you will not feel distress.
In fact, when people die of inert gas suffocation, by the time they realise they are dying they no longer care.
Stop it at once.

Death by asphyxiation will occur within a matter of mintues, 10 at the most, if you breath in pure helium continually.

wouldn't do that for too long - causes oxygen deprivation to the brain and other vital organs. Within this past month there were 2 college students that died in a balloon due to deprivation

you wont die from it for you will pass out before you can inhale enough to kill you. if say you are in a room will hulium leaking into it it would depend on how much is being leaked into the room. if the oxigen is deluted to below 17% you will die within munits. if it is compleatly diluted you will die within a few seconds.

Helium displaces oxygen from getting to your body. It can cause permenant damage if you continue. Stop for your own saftey.
