HP Pavillion running Windows 95; virus scans find none; never had this problem before

You may have spyware or adware on your computer. Depends on which virus scan software you are running, it may not be found. Try Ad-Aware by Lavasoft or SpyBot. They both find different malicious files that maybe installed.

Defrag is a good suggestion, also make sure all you're memory is still registering. Right click my computer click properties and click on the system resources tab to see how much memory you have.

Check you start up folder, remove anything from there that you do not need to start when you turn on your computer.

If that doesn't work remove any non essential peripherals.

men seriouly, GET RID OF the windows 95, seriouly you can get even window xp less that 100 bucks

defrag, clean out cookies,delete history, do a clean-up/tune-up, do you have yahoo toolbar ? use it spyware run it it check
spyware,adware,
hi-jacker,some virus try it.
