Noise inside the PC can come from various sources. The power box, the fans, the hard drive, the removable drives. To me it sounds like you have pretty loud fans installed. The fans try to cool of the system and they usually come on when the system gets hot. Hence, after running for a while or running anything that will create heat inside.

Also, Dell is well known for building good PCs for reasonable price, but as an ex Dell owner, I can tell you that they do not build their computer towers to vent really easy. You may have this problem and your fans are running extra hard to keep it cool.

Try replacing the fans with some extra quiet ones. Tell Dell to do this for you, because you can't shop for fans yourself for a Dell. They won't let you fix this yourself or your warranty will be void. Once again the main reason why I am an ex Dell owner.

It sounds like a power supply problem as that would make a lot of noise. One other thing a system fan could make that noise if you diconnect the fan and the noise is still there the power supply is bad. Just don't disconnect the CPU fan only the ones on the case.

We have seen this at the shop many times! CPU fan, or CD disk drive!
