check to make sure your computer is still physically connected to your network (check the ethernet cable in back) If it is, reboot your router, and then your computer. That should fix it.

reboot, try doing a release and renew (go to dos prompt type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /rene). Check the firewall settings to see if they are interfering. Check for third party software blocking connection. Make sure the cable modem is active if using one. Reset it also if necessary. Check to make sure cable plugged in all the way. Could be bad network card. Try cable in another machine to see if this works. If plugged directly to cable modem is this the normal pc for connecting and if not you may need to register pc with provider. If using a router you may need to register router with provider or simply reset router.
There are lots of things that can cause this problem

computer needs a valid ip address given by provider to get online and needs to know the ip address of the server it will go thru..need to verify yours by using "ipconfig/all" on the dos-prompt screen (I don't know mac). If get 10.x.x.x then your ip is shut off for password or billing reasons and if get 192.168.x.x then you have router on computer and need to make sure router is hardware+software connected to internet and check ip address in router
