I suppose people have been wondering this for years. Why strive for something that is impossible to attain? Why not say: Fine! I'll just take bliss and get on with my life?

Actually, the familiar quote goes thus:
"Where ignorance is bliss, 'Tis folly to be wise."
Author: Thomas Gray
I suppose that there are some occasions when ignorance (but NOT stupidity) can be "bliss" - if you were dying of an incurable disease and didn't know about it until it killed you, well, your time alive would be a lot happier than if you'd known.
But for the most part, I'd say that ignorance isn't very blissful - we SHOULD always strive to achieve knowledge, and, from that plus experience, gain wisdom.
What you don't know CAN hurt you.

There is much to be gained by the pursuit, it's part of the journey.
