i understand that some fish can swim backwards b/c the fish in my aquarium do each and every of the time! Sharks, even if, could always swim ahead with the intention to push water by way of their gils so as that they could breathe. If a shark were to quit swimming, or swim backwards, it would not be able to respire. So, no, sharks do not swim backward.

The best way to answer this is this.....go into the pool and swim backward yourself. pay attention to the movements you need to produce to make this happen. Afterward, take a look at a sharks body and ask yourself if it would be possible for this creature to make the same movements

i believe because it they don't have a backbone because they are all cartilage. It's kind of weird but haven't you heard that sharks need to keep on swiming to survive i think this contribute to why they can't swim backwards. they can turn back very easily though.

Because their side fins don't rotate that way. Fish that can swin backwards can move their fins in "figure eight" motions. Sharks side fins are basically stationary.

Who said they can't. They don't swim backwards because they would get a waterlogged hole

Water enters their gills the wrong way and they drown. Evolution designed them to move forward only. Top of the marine food chain...no need to retreat.
