I don't fully understand. It says tuition is $0 but something like $3000 per year. Is that correct, I would need to pay $3000? (plus books)

Other state universities (Michigan State) are 10's of thousands of dollars. What's the catch?

There is a break down of the costs available here: http://www.calstate.edu/AR/fa_coa.shtml

What's the catch? California has some of the highest taxes in the country. AT least they are spending them on something useful like education.

it is about 1500$ with parking pass(if you have a car) school id and other things that you need to go to school there. so yes approximately 3k a year. then books can kill you, but check out places like www.half.com and such to get books cheaper, or get a job at the bookstore on campus just to save on books.
