I think it has to do alot with the world we live in today. Values and morals are a thing of the past. Women are more independent now. They no longer have to stay with a man to survive like they did in the past. And a question for anyone, How many of these marriages were bad, ( abuse, cheating, lying, etc.) If people would stop judging other people and learned how to take care of their own affairs life would not be so bad. And maybe marriage would last.

It's because of the children. Most kids from a divorced family would span kids who would also choose divorce over saving a marriage. Then its just simple math really, 2 people divorced with three kids, next generation 6 couples divorced all with an average of 3 kids each, so next generation 18 couples have the possibility of divorce. Sorry the only good news is that a couple who stay in marriage have the same ratio with those that go for divorce. So my dear, the only answer to this delema is to make sure that you find your true mate. Good luck.

Because people are is too much of a hurry for everything in their lives. Marriage is no exception. People rush into things. Marriage was truly for better or for worse before the 1960's. A person was looked highly down upon in society if he/she was divorced. Nowadays it is just common practice. That is why you see older couples starting to get divorces too.

It's because people marry when they barely know each other or are too young. Look at half these horrible people who post their questions about cheating on their spouses here on Yahoo Answers. It's disgusting and I have no sympathy for them. Once you take those vows, you should obey them. And if your partner is treating you badly or you cannot work things out, then you should divorce. If most people just looked before they leaped, they wouldn't be in these kinds of predicaments. I wouldn't call it scary...I call it pathetic.

Because it is so easy to get divorced. Expensive, but easy. Couples are too quick to give up on each other than making the relationship be a lasting and fulfilling one.

it's not, it actually leveled off some time ago but remains relatively constant...in addition, typically stats do not take into account year the number of total marriages as opposed to the number of divorces in a given year...

why? because they take for granted marriage.
and also, because divorce is legal, that's why..people just abuse the privilege. Maariage don't seem to ahve a meaning nowadays.
Marry now and divorce after 1 week. easy come, easy goes...that's the way it is now, and its not good

Too many people in too much of a hurry. Enough with the sound bites, try actually talking with each other.

It's skyrocketing because Love isn't what it used to be... People aren't willing or patient enough to work through their problems together; so once they hit a 'bump in the road' they call it quits, simply because they can.
