Ah, the old "If a tree falls in the forest . . . " question upgraded to the universe.
I'd say yes, the universe would exist - just as I'd say that tree would make a noise even if no one were around to hear it.
Events and/or matter itself doesn't require an audience to permit their existence.
Just think of how much of the universe(s?) we don't perceive right now. And I'm not talking only about the distant universe(s). Imagine what the Earth would look/sound like if we could perceive all the colors of the spectrum and all the audio range possible. The fact that we can't see X-rays, gamma rays, ultra-violet and infra-red (without the aid of instruments) doesn't mean they don't exist.

Thats like the question "What is the sound Of one hand clapping" or"if a tree fell in the woods would it make a sound?"

My short answer is even if I do "perceive" the car coming when I cross the street, It will still run me over..:)

The universe exists with or without us. It is rather presumptuous and highly egotistical to assume that nothing could exist if we weren't here. The universe existed 15billion years before we even began to grasp at it's immensity. It will continue to exist when we are all extinct.

Yes existence does not depend on us. If a tree falls in the forrest it makes a soud regardless if anyone is around. Sound does not need someone to hear it.

Exist... not axist.
The universe would be there even if no one can perceive it, if it in fact existed.... the larger question is what is reality and what is perception?

Look up existentialism and metaphysical being you will find more questions there.

I believe it would still exist, but no one can know because knowledge is based on perception. On cannot say they are completely sure it would or would not exist in such a situation because all of our criteria for existing and or not existing are based on our perceptions of the object.

If the universe would not exist if we were not watching it, then bullets could not hurt us - they move too quickly to see. ;) The forces of nature out there in the universe (especially gravity) continue to act upon its parts whether we are watching or not.
