Its windows XP home edition. I've done the online support and it couldn't solve my problem. I recently tried to install the SIMS2 and it said i didn't have directx9.0c, even though i did. So i fixed the bug by reseting my refresh force, and it was working fine. As soon as the game started windows freaked out and went into what looked like safe mode. But its doesnt say safe mode in any of the corners like it should. I tried reseting my display options and it won't go any better than 16 color bits and 640X480! I went back and redid everything i messed with to get the game to work, and rebooted. Still no luck. What do I do?

First I would definately verify that you have DirectX 9.0c. It could lead to these problems.
Second, I would check you video drivers. In XP you right-click MyComputer, click "Manage"
Under System Tools is "Device Manager" click that. On the right side you should have "Display Adapters" It should list your video card (or integrated video card) If it doesn't (like it says "standard vga) then you probably have to reinstall your Video Drivers. You'll have to go to the Manufactuer of the Videocard to get those. Download them and install them.

Another option is to do a System Restore to a point before installing Sims2. If you are running Service Pack 2, it should automatically set a restore point.
All Programs->Accessories->System TOols->System Restore. You select "Restore system from earlier point" Then select the point before installing Sims 2. This WILL REVERT BACK!!! you may lose settings; definately anything after installing sims 2.

I'd definately check the Video drivers first though.

You video card may also be loose in the slot. Try reseating the card as well as updating the drivers. You can also download the directx installer and have it rerun. Had problems with new drivers once before so you may want to see if you can find an older drive like the one on cd it came with

I'd Boot in Safe Mode and do a RESTORE PRIOR to the Install of Sims 2.

You might try updating the driver to the video card, or updating the video card itself. Any problems like this happen to you prior your SIMS install?

accurate click your problematic force, bypass to homes, equipment, and decide to envision your disk for mistakes. remember to mark the container to fix without delay. Restart. you could then attempt operating msconfig from job manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) by using dropping down the report menu. From there you could run different diagnostics lower than the equipment menu.
