They disobeyed the living God.

And - the Jews didn't kill Jesus, the Roman's didn't do it, He freely gave it - He became sin (deliberate independence from God - not individual actions) so that the world would no longer need to be slaves to it and we would have righteousness by His Spirit living within us.
