Needing to replacing the fan motor for the home a/c condenser, and want to know if it's a simple DIY job. It's a GE 1/3 HP with 1075RPM. Please advise if there's any detailed info on the replacement online. What are some of the things I should watch out for? Any other associated parts with motor I should also replace?

Make sure the power is off to the unit. Take the top off and if the fan is mounted to the top, follow the wires back to the plug or the contactor and remove them. You may need a puller to remove the blades. Sometimes they are hard to get off. IF you need to cut the shaft of the old motor off, a hacksaw will make quick work of that! There are many replacement motors out there, so make sure it is an exact replacement with RPM being the critical number to follow. You can go up in horsepower. Most fans are mounted with a belly type band. Loosen he band and remove the motor. Get the replacement and also a new capacitor. While you have it this far apart, take a garden hose and clean out the coils. Hose them opposite way of the airflow, usually wash them from the inside out. Also while you have it down, check the condition of the contactor. If it looks burnt on the points, replace it also. Not a very expensive part. After all is well so far, put the motor back in the mount and tighten it up! Put the blades back on, checking for any cracks or loose hubs and rivets. Put the top back on and put the wires back on the contactor or plug. Install the new capacitor and start it up! Not a tough job to do, just sometimes the blades do stick hard to the shaft! Good luck!!

not a hard job at all,i would replace the contactor and capacitor while the unit is down.be sure to use a voltage tester to be certain circuit is de-energized! when in doubt, turn off all 240 volt breakers in the panel.

Turn off power. Mark each side of wire with a different color code if not colored. Take to shop. Get same Fan motor and have tech mark color code for you. Splice or wire-nut existing wires to condensor unit wires. Turn on....be cool!!

I'm a do-it-yourselfer too but that one has not crossed my path yet. Maybe you could get some advice from a professional.
