We require proficiency in english to become a citizen. Why should a person who does not read and write english be able to vote in an election whether it is for a government position or a tax matter?

Bilingual ballets will only serve to keep segments of the population uneducated and ill-equipped to function in a modern world. While this may be good for rich people, who get a constant supply of cheap labor, and unethical civil rights activists, who salivate at the thought of illegal aliens voting democrat, it’s bad for the rest of the country.

I personally am resentful that the rich factory owner employing all those illegal aliens transfers his costs to me through the higher taxes and increased insurance premiums that I pay to clean up the costs of all those illegal aliens.

Make English our official language, and the language of all government functions and offices.

People come to America to live a better life usually. My grandpa is originally from Italy. His family didn't speak english right away but they learned eventually. I guess I'm trying to say that it could be a good thing that we don't just speak english in this country at first, because a lot of our ancestors didn't in the beginning and I'm happy they came here because my family and I wouldn't be here if they hadn't. I realize this doesn't exactly answer your question, but maybe you should think about it?

merely because you may "communicate" English does not advise you may understand ballots. Many pollpropositions are so complicated you really a lot choose a legal specialist to understand them, even if you communicate English. The extra those that ought to understand the poll, the extra recommended electorate we've. even as human beings vote without information what they are vote casting on, they develop into weak to manipulation by using the campaigns. for this reason, we choose as many human beings as available to understand the subjects to have a extra honest election.

If I were going to another country like Italy, I would be expected to speak and read the language if I were voting...I expect the same here. We are losing a part of our culture if we begin to "give" in yet another area. Nana

Try living in Canada, every day you have two languages coming at you. I guess if you are bringing something to a country why should you be penalised over not speaking the language.

We should not have bi-lingual ballots. That is one place that we don't need any other language but English.

There is no official language in the United States. Now, that said, I wish we had one, and I think it should be English, but good luck...

I agree. We shouldn't. And if immigrants want to be in this country so badly, then they should learn the language.
