Yes, for the most part they are not very useful anymore and I'm sure it would help save money if the government no longer had to mint, transport, ect. them. Considering that most money transfers are done electronically and rounding would not end up costing that much, it really is a good idea.
They could even implement some kind of rounding up tax so that instead of those extra few cents being taken as profit for whatever company, it could instead be placed into an education fund or something. Given education isn't usually on the top of the list when it comes to where tax money should be allocated.

Granted pennies are not cost effective from a manufacturing point of view. It takes 1.3 cents to make a penny because the price of zinc has gone up so high. But I love them, and so do charities. Long live the penny!
Plus the whole rounding down if it's in the lower two cents and rounding up if it's in the upper two cents is just a math/accounting abomnination. No one has respect for precision!

No. Monetary bills and such would have to either round up or down to the nearest 5, thus adding 2 or 3 cents every now and then. and then each person making 5 purchases a day, and thats at max 15 cents a person, per day. times, say, 5 million, for those in larger cities, is.... well you do the math.

Yes I live in Germany, my husband is in the Army and on base the only place that uses them is the Post Office because they can't round the price up or down. But everywhere else either rounds up or down. So if you purchased something for 4.03 you pay 4.05. But really now it breaks even. Because if your cost was 4.02 you only pay 4.00. It would cost more to ship the pennies here than they were worth.

when I was in Seoul with the Army, on post, there were no pennies. Too much weight i guess and trouble with Conversion. Anyhow I was there a couple months before I even realized it. It really made nodifference except less clutter when i emptied my pockets

Yes. I hate the penny. They are useless and just collect all over the house and they smell bad. Plus you don't know where they've been or who has touched them. Gross.
