The average teenager needs a specific amount of discipline, especially if they do something they know is wrong.
The difference between wrong and right should be taught to a child at a very early age, as should morals. And parents should lead by example.
Thing is, a teenager who is not "average"; doesn't go to parties, doesn't fight at a lot with their parents, doesn't go out much (or if they go out, they tell their parents where they are going and their parents trust them), this type of teenager doesn't normally need a lot of discipline.
The only decise thing I can tell you is that a parent needs to gauge their child and let actions and attitudes speak for the discipline. Every teenager is different and every parent is different and the discipline thing goes on a case by case basis.

In today's world, kids (younger and teenagers) are raised as if they are just small versions of adults. They aren't allowed to be young. That's a shame. They miss out on so much when they aren't allowed to enjoy being young. As far as discipline, I'd have to say yes they do need more. I can't believe the number of parents I've met over the years who let their kids, younger and older children and teenagers, do whatever the kids want. Even things that aren't appropriate for the age of the young person. This doesn't teach them anything about the responsibility or respect they'll need when they're adults. Teenagers and children both need to know where the line is and today's parents aren't teaching them. That's what discipline is for.

Teens need more love, more attention, more self control and more structure.
With those things will come discipline. Discipline, when imposed from without and without the teen having the understand of why the discipline is being imposed will feel like prison bars. The only discipline that will have a long-term impact is that which the teen can earn over the aspects of their own life.

You should have starting giving a child discipline at birth. Then children would know "right and wrong" and how to react to different situations. But some do...others repel to it

Yes! Today's kids run rampant and I blame the legistators that make spanking a crime. Sorry folks, but 'time out' is BS. Growing up, I was a pretty good kid, because I feared what my dad would do to me more than police or school administration.

I believe so, yes. However I also believe there should be a "license" if you will. To have children in the first place. I mean you need one for a car, and that's just a car. You wreck it, you replace it. Without proper upbringing, you ruin a person for life.
A person cannot be replaced.

Most do. Our society has gone soft and it's growing. Not all teenagers are bad, but too many are influenced my poor media programming and despicable icons.
