My question to you is why do you think you deserve it? Were you born retarded or something? Do you need help? If you are able to work a computer than you can get a job. I owe you nothing.

Hmmm.. well we USED to believe that... until the Neo CONS came and confused the stupid Wall-mart Republicans about the meaning of responsible government and Communism.
Now I work 2 jobs to support my family before all of you idiots call me "lazy". The government should provide a SAFETY NET for people in times of trouble (like when our economy is tanked and all of our jobs fly overseas).
And when you talk about housing, medical and food we are not necessarily talking about the mythical "Welfare mother". Our elders have worked their entire lives and our companies are taking away their pensions and our government is screwing them over every chance they get on medicines... are you saying they should shut up and get a job too?
I hope with all of my heart that you people who believe this crap never have anything bad happen in your life that requires you to need some help.

That's always been a conundrum for me. I'm very much in favor of foreign aid (we're the richest country, we should share, plus it creates goodwill around the world).
However, I also believe such aid could benefit our citizens.
I note that a lot of responses here reflect the idea that "helping us" means "welfare". Funding health programs, research, housing, environmental and educational programs is not welfare.
And I have to insert this dig: $6 billion a month could be very helpful to our citizens, but we're dumping it into Iraq. With that money, we could guarantee health care for all our citizens (among other programs).

I agree look how our govt helped out Katrina... think they will be there for you?????? I really doubt it...Help should start at home first then abroad... They have let our country go down hill for too long. Don't necessarily mean welfare either as we are already known as the welfare country....We continue to give and never receive.

I agree with Kathy.
We should help OURSELVES, because we are capable of doing so. I don't need the government to babysit me. Get a job.
Why should a chunk of my pay check go to a perfectly capable person just becuase they want to sit on thier lazy *** all day?

In Canada they do that, but we have a reputation to keep, so we give more than half away. What country are you talking about and what is you question?

Uhm, no they shouldn't. And if you want that, then I'm sure you can find a couple communist countries you might enjoy.
