Whatever animal that birds evolved from (theoretically it was a kind of dinosaur) probably laid eggs too. So do lizards, amphibians, fish, etc that the dinosaur evolved from. The evolution from dinosaur to bird was extremely slow, so you can't really say there just appeared a chicken one day or an egg. I suppose, if you go back far enough, there was some animal who had an offspring with a protective covering over it for a period of time instead of just an unprotected embryo laid in the water....this caused a few more of the offspring to live as apposed to the ones with no protective covering....thus the egg-laying animals evolved. So I'd have to theorize the egg came first because the animal who laid the first egg was not a chicken. :D
For those who think God just put chickens here one day, how do you explain dinosaur bones....and dinosaurs who had primative feathers and beaks????

I would have to say that in the beginning of all time, God created the chicken and ofcourse chicken's have eggs... so that egg would become a chicken and have an egg, and so forth. It's just the way things work

God created the chicken first, the egg has to be sat on by the chicken so that it is kept warm until time to hatch.

The egg.... on your breaskfast table!! lol!
Well... on a more serious note? The egg... coz all birds lay eggs.. and even before the first chickens there were other birds laying eggs. (Acc. to evolutions as well as the Bible)
So maybe 1 day this bird's egg hatched and Voila! There was the 1st chicken!
