Absolutely! It's in incredible demand now, too, and a lot of places are offering HUGE signing bonuses (incentives), like a down-payment on a house and moving costs paid, or $10000.00 cash at signing, pay for your college education, and so on. It's an amazing industry right now.
... and it will stay high-demand. By 2010, one quarter of our population will be seniors. That, alone, will increase demand by multiples. Plus, people will always be sick.

If nursing is what you have in mind, then get to it. Nursing is one the best professions out there. The money is great, the hours are great, and the job security is like no other. My wife is a nurse, most of the friends are nurses, and they would not change it for anything. Did you know that there is actually a shortage of nurses in the U.S.? They emmigrate from all over the world to fill this vacancy since there are too many donkeys around here who rather gold-dig. YES, YES, YES. Be a nurse. You will never regret it.
Mr. M on nursing.

Nursing is a high-demand profession in the US, and it will only grow more so in the next 25 years.
Many hospitals offer VERY good incentives for nurses. If you are outside the US you will find a lot of help in getting admission to work here in nursing, plus help with housing and an excellent package of bonuses, benefits, and good pay.
Not all hospitals or institutions hiring nurses make such offers, of course. It is important to check the market thoroughly.
Some institutions will pay for a person's entire education in return for a specific commitment to work on their nursing staff.
There are associations for hospitals and for nurses, as well as schools of nursing. These can be looked up on the Internet. Just consider checking job opportunity ads in the classified as of major US newspapers - the online Sunday editions - as well as the web sites of hospitals and the associations. You can also search for articles about pay, benefits, and incentive packages for nurses.
Good luck. And please DO think about it - we NEED you!

I'm not sure about the US, but in Canada, especially BC, there's a HUGE demand for nurses. My mother is a Registered Nurse, and she makes enough money to pay the mortgage and then have money left over to buy concert tickets, go golfing, and get her hair done at a salon!
Not to mention the hospital calls her almost every day wanting her to work overtime. Quite often she'll get calls from three different wards wanting her to work!

Nursing and health care is a very stable job/career. We are facing a health care professional shortage in this country and that makes anyone with or seeking training in that field a valuable asset.

You will always have a job if you are a nurse in the US.There is a shortage of nurses, and they are always advertising in the paper for nurse's jobs. They are paid quite well, but work very hard.

Yes. You might not get rich, but the demand is always there and this is a skill that is completely transportable. As far as I know there is a demand for this in almost every city in the country.
