Because, sometimes what we wish we had is often not what we actually need, and comes with its own set of problems.

Because if you really really wish for something then the odds are that it will come tru and by the time it does come true ... it might not be your wish any longer! And if it is is (Still) It might not tunr out as goo as it was in your imagination while you were wishing away! Then again!!! It could be that you wished for say ... A beautiful woman? And you do get a beautiful woman except ... She's only beautiful outside, not inside! Or else she has a terrible laugh or whatever else. Then you could wish for a large mansion house, get it but hey! You've no money for the upkeep so you see ... That's why you should extra cautious before wishing!
How do i know that? Well i live in the land of leprechauns so i do know to think carefully before wishing! To be sure to be sure!!!!

A number of philosophers, writers, and psychologists have pointed out that we should be careful for what we wish because we might get it!
In a number of well known fairy stories, someone is given three wishes. The plot of the stories is based on the fact that most persons don't have enough self-knowledge to know what they really want or appreciate what they already are.
Thus, this being the case, the last wish in the story is to undo the other wishes.
As Socrates said, "Tend your own soul." ("Know thyself.") To wish for something we think we do not have, occasionally, gives evidence that we do not accept ourselves as we are.

Because what we wish for usually has other hidden things that come with them. For example, say I wish for a car. I get it. I have to pay for gas for it. The tags. The inspections. The repairs. It may be more than I wanted.
Their are always other things that come with the things we want. We don't know everything so wishing for something tends to bring the things we didn't think about.

Good timing on you question: This site is bombarded from people who want to close the borders, deport all illegal workers, send the National Guard to the border - yadda yadda yadda.
So, if they are to be successful in their endeavors, who do they think is going to pick fruit, clean hotel rooms, wash cars, do gardening?
If the businesses are even able to FIND American workers willing to do such menial labor, the costs will be astronomical, and the cost of a basket of strawberries will rise a hundredfold. A hotel room will double in cost ... and so on.
So, that is one example of why you should be careful what you wish for.

You should not wish for things because ultimately you don't know what the consequences will be when you get your wish. For example: Winning the lottery, everyone knows, bothers the crap out of you, IRS finds out, you go to jail, get "befriended" by Bubba. Not cool. Be happy with what you have and work hard, the rest will come when you earn it.

Cause the results you get may not be the ones you want. Wishes can go several different ways.

Because we don't always realize what can attend our getting those wishes.
It's called "The Law of Unintended Consequences."
Look at how many lottery winners got their wish but probably wish (if they had the chance to do so) that they hadn't: see links below

If you are in a position to make a wish you should consult a contract attorney to ensure that it comes out exactly as you wanted.
