I think so....but my grandmother always refers to my male friends as my boyfriends and it pisses me off....I'm always afraid shes going to say something when there around.

She is old and im not sure if it was just from a time period when male friends were refered to as boyfriends and now it has come to mean sometikng gay ......Don't you associate the term with gay or is it neutral term?????

She's your grandmother, get over it. My grandmother tells long stories and pulls out embarrassing pictures of me as a child in front of my friends but I'm not going to freak out about it. That's just what they do. If it happens that she calls your friends your boyfriends in front of them just pull them aside later and let them know she is elderly and that's what she says. I am sure they will understand because their grandmothers probably say random things too (notice the pattern). If they are so closed-minded and freaked out that they are no longer your friends, in the words of my grandmother "you are better off without them."

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" Everyone has a different view. In my opinion, it is neutral. But others may disagree. My advice would be to talk with your grandmother and tell her that it makes you uncomfortable when she calls your guy friends "boy friends" If she asks you why, then tell her the truth. Ask her if she could refer to them as your guy friends or just friends.

Yeah... It's a little gay for a male to call his friends "boyfriends". Might be better if she/you said guy-friend.

i'm with Jungle J. You sound slightly to wanting to need to do issues that females do. yet why can adult males have sex with 100 females and be seen "the guy", yet when females did an same element, we are whor3s or sluts. Double criteria suck. yet they bypass both procedures.

I use the terms "gal friends" and "guy friends" instead. That way I don't seem like I have multiple partners.

I think society makes it that way...apparently, it feeds into the whole sex fantasy of a man having two women. In other words, that seems to be kosher.

I think calling female friends girlfriends is weird too. I hate when my mom says my female friends are my girlfriends.

I don't wrap myself around words and get all torn up -- to me that is a waste of time and enrgy. I do think you should respect your Grandmother and never correct her - she is your elder.
