My fan stays on after I turn off my car until the battery is drained, for like 2 hrs. It just happened yesterday, the battery is brand new, I dont want the battery to run down again and ruin it so I am not driving it until it is fixed.....I was told by ford dealer it is the pcm box....is this correct?

The PCM does control the cooling fan relay, turns it on or off, depending on what the PCM tells it to do. The constant control relay module actually contains the cooling fan relay. The relay module is mounted to the side of the battery. A strap clamp holds it on. It is a black metal box about 5 inches square. A quick test you may try, with the car off, and the cooling fan still running, take something like a wooden handle and tap a few good licks on the metal relay box mounted to the side of the battery, don't destroy the thing, just a few good licks. If the cooling fan stops, hey you may just need a constant control relay module because the fan relay is sticking. If it doesn't change it, then the PCM is actually commanding the fan to run all of the time.

I had this exact same problem with my Durango. It's likely a bad fan relay...you should have a small fuse/relay box somewhere under the hood, either near the back firewall or attached to the inside fender. Check your owner's manual or a repair manual for this. Once you've found it, find the fan relay on the diagram in the manual. There may also be one inside the lid of the panel itself. If you can't find the location on the diagram, just start the car and wait for the fan to start running. To find itwill be simple; the bad relay (which should look like a small silver or black square box) will be HOT to the touch from being on all the time. Turn off the car, disconnect the battery, and note the location of the bad relay. On some models this simply unplugs out of the fuse block...if it does, remove it and take it to the dealer or Auto Zone, etc. and replace it with the exact same relay. Don't keep letting it go or it can melt into & ruin the relay/fuse block. If yours won't unplug then you'll need to take it to a dealer or reliable car electrical tech to replace it.

Its either the pcm box or a simple relay. I recommend you get a "Haynes" manual for your particular make and model. Your vehicles problem is not unusual and is easily fixed. Your tempurature sending unit may also be on the fritz. Its telling the "brain" on your car that it is still hot when in fact it isnt. Replace the thermostat, check the tempurature sending unit, run a diagnostic on the pcm and relay. Never forget to check the fuses. Ford has a very different approach to engineering. I've worked on cars for more than 20 years and Fords always make me scratch my head when trying to repair one.

Plenty of maybe it,s this and maybe it,s that answers could apply here but if you want it fixed take it to a shop and have it checked out.It is very likely just a sensor reading incorrectly but you have to have it checked out to know for sure.

you have a switch that was after market installed. you have to find the switch and turn it off when you turn the car off. look for a switch that you don't use and you don't know what it is for.
