Take the bricks out of the trunk.
Not really.
But springs are the answer. If you want to save money, buy some coil spring spacers if you have traditional coil springs (not struts or leafs). They are blocks you wedge between the coils to keep them from compressing. A little more expensive fix that they used in the past is air shocks but I don't like that route. The spacers are good if you buy the ones that are kind of tought to put in. Some look like they're twisted and they're easy to just twist them to wedge in between the coils............they fall out a lot. Others you need to jack up the car body to stretch the spring and then force it in by prying the spring open. You can actually make your car a little higher than when it was new ;)

You need new springs.Shock absorbers do nothing to hold the vehicle up they only as the name implies absorb shock. The springs are what actually lift up the vehicle. A weak or broken spring lets the back or front of a car sag and this sounds like what you are describing here. Good luck.

You need new springs but check the shock absorber first.

Check to make sure your mother-in-law didn't fall asleep in the back seat.
