Due to the large payroll and luxury tax associated with it, from an annual revenue perspective they operate at a loss. However, the "worth" of the team is now over 800 million dollars.

Since they charge so much for seats in the games. They get billions of dollars to support all of the expensive players like A-Rod, Derek Jeter, and Randy Johnson.
