My 14 year old daughter has a hard time making friends. She is a bit shy at first but a very nice person once she loosens up. Is there something that I can do to help her along or should I just let her find friends on her own? She is spending most of the summer in the house and it is really starting to bother her ( and me).
Any suggestions?

I was a very shy teenager and I had a hard time making friends. My parents left it up to me to make new friends and it was quite difficult. I finally am able to make new friends now, 10 yrs later. My recommendation is to put her in some sort of fun program. Perhaps, something she likes or is good at. This way at least y'all are out of each other's hair and there's definite potential that she'll make new friends because she'll already have something in common with the other kids in the program. Good luck!

Have your friend's kids come over and hang out with her. Sounds like she just needs some social interaction and it won't hurt if you help out a little. Take her to the community pool, take her out among other kids. If she's shut away in a house all summer she's never going to make friends.

Try to make confident enough so that she could make friends on her own. Try to develop her social interaction. Take her to the places where there are lots of people and introduce her to them or you can arrange parties in your home, i think it will give her enough confidence to talk to the other children. In school days you can also talk to her teacher to involve her in the activities going in the class. and the best thing to do is that improve her knowledge so that she can discuss anything with other people. when i was young i was also very shy and i couldn't talk to the people but now i have got lots of friends.

try getting her interested in the y, my brother and sister are around her age and they love it. Theres lots of different activities to choose from and itll get her around the house. If there isnt a y in your area then check into your countys park and recreational programs....you might find something. To find parks and recreation program just type in your county name and state on google, thatll get you in the right direction. dont try to push her too hard though it might make it worse.....just be subtle
