It depends on the hardware you have available. To share internet without a router you need to have a free Network Interface Card (NIC) on your PC that currently has internet connectivity. You will then need to run ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) and connect the PCs with a standard Crossover Cable (this is a special cable that crosses the send and receive wires thus allowing the stuff sent from one PC to hit the receive side of the other)
However, this method isn't the most reliable, can be a pain to set up, and overall, with the low cost of a plain, wired router, not worth the savings.

It depends, if currently your internet is coming in over your RJ45 connection then you cannot. But if you have the internet coming in through Wifi, USB (Usually available on cable and DSL modems), Modem, or another RJ45 connection, then Yes, all you need is a cat5 crossover cable, which is easy to find at a Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack, or any other computer store. Once you have the crossover cable then you'll need to enable sharing of the other connection with the RJ45 connection (the LAN Connection). To do this in windows (i assume that is your OS) you go to Network Connections and there will be your other connection, either Dial Up, or Wifi, and the General Internet Connection, if you're using Dial up select both the LAN and Dial up icons and right click and select "Bridge Connections" this holds true for any other type of connections. Now your computer should respond to DHCP requests from the other computer and act as a router. If not search the internet, and more complete answers may exist.

Yes Me and my dad recently set up our home network get an rj45 crossover cable then on the computer that directly recieves the internet configure it to share it it will say it will work but if u have any type of firewall it wont right then on the gateway copmputer (direct internet computer) go on analogX.com and download ANALOG X PROXY It is really easy to use then you have to configure it it is really simple!
Next go into run on the gateway then type cmd then press enter then type in IPCONFIG then it will show the host ip address write this down!
Now go onto your laptop and then open internet explorer or whatebver you want to use I use internet explorer so ill explain that click tools then click internet options then click connections then click LAN settings then tick box for use proxy in the address box type the gateways ip address eg, 192.168.0.1 then in the port type 6588 (proxy server always uses that port ) then click ok then it will work!

Yes, you need to enable internet sharing and you can use an RJ45 crossover cable to connect your laptop and PC. This is only a very broad summary answer, let me know if you want a detailed one!

To share your connection you need to have 2 NICs in your laptop. If you have a wireless card and are currently on the internet with it then you can use the wired NIC to share your connection. Go into Help & Support and look for Internet Connection Sharing for information on how to do that.

You can share you connection through your main PC (PC1) but that PC will have to have two network cards and you would need a crossover cable to connect PC2 to PC1.
Assuming were not talking dialup through a modem connected to PC1, you can share a connection through a cheap network hub(i wouldn't recommend it though) but the dsl router would have to be connected to the uplink port in the hub

Yes its possible. On your primary computer ( the one that recieves the internet connexion first) you will have to make a few small changes - but its not very difficult.
Go into your connexions folder and right click on the conexion that your using. Under the properties tab you will be able to enable internet sharing.
Works on my French Windows XP

other answers was good but one thing if your rj45 port is free use a peer to peer cable to your note book... then set PC IP address to 192.168.0.1 and sub net mask to 255.255.255.0 that's it, now in note book set the ip address to 192.168.0.2 and sub net mask to 255.255.255.0 an default gateway to 192.168.0.1 , make sure two computer have a same workgroup name (you can see it by Right clicking the my computer icon and choose properties)
