My opinion is that I really don't care. Worse things have happened and worse will. Besides, not many people died, just a lot of people became homeless. But they'll bounce back. The whole thing was caused by ignorance, not a hurricane. Everyone would have been fine if the levy was strengthened, but ignorance prevented it and the power of the ignorance of humans never surprised me. New Orleans caused their own downfall. Besides, what kind of idiot thinks, "I'm gonna build a city BELOW SEA LEVEL where HURRICANES FREQUENT...and then I'm gonna live thar!" How 'bout when you "rebuild" the city you move it a couple miles inland, huh?

It's been over ten months, and I am sick and tired of hearing everyone around me talk as if Katrina happened yesterday. I came back home, cleaned up my mess, I am still employed, I am getting on with life. My opinion of New Orleans is that our government is full of self-serving jackasses and most of my fellow citizens are whiny brats. My opinion of Hurricane Katrina is that it can and will happen again, and the Army Corps of Engineers need to do a much better job on the levees than they did the first time. Did you know they have taken full responsibility for the levee failure? Your tax dollars at work....

It will happen all over again when a hurricane stronger than Katrina rolls through there. We ignore the power of nature and we don't adapt. How stupid of us to rebuild a city below sea level in a hurricane prone area that is next to a giant lake.

It is very unfortunate that Hurricane Katrina had to happen and I definately think that the government did a poor job of handleing the situation.
I am getting a little tired of hearing about it all the time, but I guess that I shouln't complain b/c I am lucky that I wasn't one of the victims.

it was a disaster waiting to happen.
everyone was to blame. the politicians sat on their hands, yes, but even if they had tried to raise taxes to fix the problem, everyone would have mutinied. it was a no win situation. the only outcome was to wait for the hurricane and have the levy break and then have the federal government try to bail everyone out.

I have a hard time finding sympathy now. I had a major thing happen to me, took my house, dogs, wife, all my belongings, and destroyed my credit. I got up and started over. I am an idiot, so if I can, anybody can.

I did not like the fact that president bush did not go down there sooner. NO offence to anyone but i think if Neworleans was a white city then he would have been dow there sooner.

What happened to the residents is unfortunate. Now we need to focus on the present and future. We need to continue to help them and prevent things like this from happening again, to the best of our ability.
