The baby of a cow is called a calf, but you can name it whatever you want. I had a heifer that I showed and I named her Meredith after Meredith Grey from Grey's Anatomy. I usually wait to name my animals till I find a little bit out about their personality. Calves are the cutest! I especially love shorthorn calves because they have cool colors. Sorry this is so long and hope it's helpful!

cowling... lmao
In response to your addition... I think the problem is that people are not taking things literally.. if they did then they would have answered the question that you asked of what do "you" call a baby cow, and not answered the question they made up in their heads of what is the proper word for a baby cow.

bovine (non-gender specific for either male or female)
cow (adult female),
steer (castrated male)
bull (adult male)
ox (mature castrated male, used for draught purposes).

An infant, on the other hand, is a calf

an animal between one and two years old is a yearling

maiden cow (i.e. one that has yet to have a calf) is called a heifer.

Depends on what species you are talking about. Since many kinds of female animals are referred to as "cows", this is too vague of a question to answer.
