My kids do it now and they are 5 & 2 and I don't see much changing. It all depends on how you feel about it. If you think he's a big baby and are creeped out by it then let him go.

I have lots of friends that call their grandmothers something different than Grandma. I also still call my mom, mommy and I'm almost 16. As for the blanket thing, it's normal, especially if something significant took place in his life. My sister did that, she slept with a baby blanket that my grandma made for her when she was in the hospital one time. She still does to this day especially after my grandma passed away. Such things like blankets, stuffed animals, toys, ect. are dear to some people and when they hold it they get a wave of comfort, joy, protection and memories.

As far as what he calls his mother or grandmother in my opinion is fine. Perhaps when he gets older he may replace their names (well at least his mom's) with something a little more adult like simply calling her mom. As for the security blanket it is a result of something that has happen in his life that left him feeling the need of security. Although it is a noraml thing he will adventually need to get to a point of security in his life where the blanket is no longer needed.

I'm 23 and I love my Mommy. It's a term of endearment. That's like asking somebody why they call their loved one 'dear' or 'hun' or whatever. Also, that may just be his favorite blanket. I've got a body pillow that I curl around. Just chill, man. Everybody's different. Just because you don't do it doesn't mean it's "weird".
