Juice usually works wonders. What formula was he on before? I would give that a shot. More apple juice.

At 4 months when my son was constipated my Dr. recommended an ounce of prune juice in a morning bottle and an evening bottle until he poopies. He said to taper it down to keep him managed. I used the prune juice to get the works moving and then I started him on an ounce of pear juice (you can get it in the baby food isle) in a morning bottle everyday. It keeps him pretty regular. If for some reason he gets a little constipated again I try a second ounce of pear juice in the evening and then if he still doesn't poopie I give him an ounce of prune again in the morning.
You have to be careful with the prune juice though because it can work VERY well. It may give him diarrhea. So you need to make sure you switch back to the pear juice as soon as he poopies again.
I hope this helps!
If your child hasn't poopied in a week you need to call your Dr. if you haven't seen him already. It could be a sign of an obstruction. It sounds like you have been to your Dr. though, so if they aren't worried I wouldn't be either. But I wouldn't go more than 2 more days without seeing him again if your child doesn't have a BM.

My life-long battle with constipation began when I was 6 months old I went from breast-feeding to formula. Nothing ever worked on me as a child, not Karo´s syrup, prunes, suppositories, hot tea, NOTHING: My pediatrician said that drinking excessive amounts of water would just make me pee a lot. The only thing that ever worked were laxatives, preferably Ex-lax. He could suffer from a newly-discovered condition called "colonic inertia". Ask a specialist.

I'm with Mike C. - Glycerin Suppositories work great, my daughter went through the same thing as an infant. If you wait to long it is going to very painful for the baby to have the BM and could cause an impaction that the doctor or nurse will have to dig out OUCH!! Ask your doctor what he thinks about the situation since his other ideas are not working. You might also try stimulating with a warm bath.

If he's not had a BM in a full week..7 days..then I suggest you go get him an infant suppository. My first son had this problem becuase he was formula fed..(breast feed next time, constipation is unheard of in breastfed babies, anyway..) go get the supository for now to give the lil guy some relief. Then feed him the apple juice as recomended by your doctor. His lil system will work its self out....but if he stays plugged up too long it could cause more problems. Good luck!

I had the same problem with my daughter. We used karo syurp and white grape juice also apple juice. She still has to drink apple juice to have a nice soft poop. I've also heard meneral oil works. If it gets really bad there are baby suppositories and baby laxitives. My best friend has to use that to get her daughter to go.

If nothing else works, ask your doctor to perscribe Miralax for him. It is a laxative and works very well. it is not absorbed by the body and is very safe. It takes a while to figure out the dosage but it really works well when nothing else does. My daughter was put on it at 6 weeks with great results.

Both of my children were constipated a lot and none of the other methods worked for me either. My doc suggested that I give them Ex Lax Milk of Magnesia in their formula. Contact his doc and see if this is an option for your child. It was a lifesaver for us, it worked like a charm! Good luck!

I would go to the doctor's again. Could he be allergic to milk based formula? Maybe, the doctor has some more suggestions. It is horrible when your baby is in pain! Hope he feels better.

start giving him 2oz of apple juice mixed with 2oz of water every day. that should help. it may take a few days to start working. my son did the same thing and as soon as we started apple juice daily it made him regular. before the apple juice, he would take days to go but after we started the juice he went every day.
