Some 50 years of shoveling billions of $$$ in development aid in Africa and they only seem to get poorer and poorer. Why don't we stop it?

It is quite clear that development aid does not work. So what does work? Eastern Asia opened up it's markets and has become significantly better for it.

It is time that trade barriers and agricultural subsidies were removed.

I don't feel guilty because Africans keep having/electing corrupt leaders.

Like your Question! This has been a pet hate of mine for years as I lived in Papua New Guinea for 20 years and could not believe the amount of aid which was poured into the place only to end up in the pockets of the politicians with no benefit to the people whatsoever. The surest way to combat this situation is to give tied aid which means that the recipient country must firstly put forward a program of works and then finance them one stage at a time so this makes it next to impossible to pocket the money.
I find it utterly incredible that money can be thrown away in this way whilst some of our own people continue to live in poverty. I am a firm believer in the addage "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day - teach a man to fish and you feed him for life"

You have a very valid point here and I agree. If they would not be fed by us, the Africans would have to get their acts together and start growing enough food for their own needs.
Africa is an immensely rich continent and could produce enough food to feed the entire world population.
It is African mis-management and our constant interference with African affairs that produces most of the hunger, starvation and conflict in Africa. If we would leave Africa to her own devices, while at the same time pay fair prices for the produce, resources and raw materials we get from there, no problem would exist.

There have been significant improvements in Africa. Because there is a very long way to go doesn't mean we should stop helping. Finding more effective means to help would be a big improvement.

Because if we do that then people get the "guilt" Thow maney or goods is a political front. If they didn;t do it they would lose american supporters... Most people just see we are 'helping' and not that the money is going to support corruption..they do not look that far.

Because if we stop it now it could possibly stop helping completely. They're at least helping a little bit.
