A while back a friend was taking off the pickles from his McDonald's burger, then started to slightly panic when he found a -pubic- hair in it! Since he had ate about five of the same burgers before, the assumption he could have swallowed another one prior had merit. After throwing up a little bit he called to complain, they offered free food [couple of combos], since we werent sure any legal steps could be taken he just accepted, but it would've been nice to know. Considering the health codes they have to follow and well-being of customers, I beleive its possible. How mad would you be in this situation, would you attempt to sue? If it ever happened to me I probably would, I threw up a little too that day. Also, are there any health hazards if you swallow a hair, especially a pube for that matter?

LMAO, a pube is a pube you retards, its not that hard to tell. What, do you all just happen to be people who press their pubes flat, give me a break. Seriously to birth the idea one can confuse a normal hair [even ethnic] with a pube is preposterous, what simpletons you are.
Even if it was placed unintentionally, the employees do have rules to follow such as washing their hands. What, do they actually need "REMEMBER TO CHECK HANDS FOR PUBES", get the f outta here.
Point is, if I myself ever wanted a burger w/ pubes in it, I'll ask for it, but this is a somewhat respected chain that has standards.
"Its just a hair" [my azz], until you contract crabs or something worse. You guys must be
truly rustic, especially the 1 critical of America, your family probably flosses w/ pubes so I'd understand your stance.
With the attitude carried in the answers it seems responsibility is rare honor instead of mutual understanding, way to go.

And still no FACTUAL info regarding ingested hair.

First, how do you know what kind of hair it is? There is no way of telling a pubic hair from a chest hair from a hair from a head.
Second, it is people like you that make everything so expensive because you want to sue for everything. How much would you sue for? The most you lost was the cost of the meal and McDonald's already reimbursed you for that.
Third, you eat stuff like hair all the time. You think that food is free from hair, dirt, bugs, animal droppings, etc. It is a known fact in the food industry that some foreign matter is permitted. Like you can have 3 spider legs in every pound of chocolate.

If you have already taken what the manager offered you (free food) then you cant sue, and proving that is was a pubic hair, put there intentionally, and that it caused you greivous physical harm would be so impossible, you're better off to drink a lot of anything and wash it out of your system. You're concerned about a hair and you eat McDonald's foods? You should worry more about your cholesterol...ewwww. ♥

You CAN sue. But the question is SHOULD you?

First off, are you sure it was a pubic hair? Perhaps it was an eyelash or eyebrow hair. Which CAN look similar.

Aside from this - why the hell are you eating at McDonalds if you're so concerned about HEALTH codes? Perhaps you should cook up some HEALTHY food at home.

What are your damages? A few minutes of disgust doesn't count. If it didn't make you sick, you've got nothing. Hair happens. You might get something if they don't have hair nets in the food place and they are required to, but again if you have no injury, you don't have anything. It would be hard to prove a phobia from that. Don't buy food there any more. But as a courtesy to future customers, you should let management know. Edit to Halli: Please stop spreading the ignorance about the hot coffee case. If you knew the facts, you would understand it better. McDonalds heated their coffee to 180 degrees. Every other place heats theirs to 130 degrees. The difference is that at 180 degrees coffee burns in a mater of seconds. At 130 degrees, it burns in 3 minutes, so you have time to react to a spill. McDonalds had no reason to heat their coffee to that temperature and it was unreasonably dangerous.

It may not have been a pubic hair, but a hair from someone's head or chest - particularly an african-american individual with dark, nappy, curly hair. Regardless, it is gross to find another person's hair in your food. But, unless you saved the food, with hair - and suffered serious consequences i.e., health - you have no case for a legitimate law suit. No attorney would take this case without charging you his normal customary rate, and it probably would not be worth your while in the long run.

Sure you can sue. But you'll lose.

You have to prove 1) that the hair was intentionally placed there 2) it caused you some harm and 3) the company refused to recompense you for the harm caused.

Courts & juries rarely give emotional damages without physical damage to go with it.
Also, accepting the coupons was an acceptance of settlement.

Are you sure it was a pubic hair? Some ethnic hair looks similar to pubic hair. This whole country is sue happy. If it happens again, report them to the health inspector and never eat there again. Can you sue? You can sue anybody for anything if you can find an attorney to represent you, but, c'mon!!! Sure, it was gross, but please... a law suit? NO

Sure, people sue others for any number of silly reasons. After all, didn't we sign a contract at birth that life was supposed to be pleasant and risk-free in every instance?

You would have to show how you were damaged by that event in any economic way or for suffering. Probably a very tough case to win. It's very unlikely any health issues would result from swallowing a hair or two.
