This is a really stupid Urban Legand and anyone who said yes needs a slap!
It has been proven on many programmes (including the wonderful Brainiac: Science Abuse and the Discovery channel's Mythbusters) but all you have to do is think about it. A duck's quack is just an ordinary sound wave, all sound waves echo so a duck is no exception.

Ducks quacks DO echo.
Now this question should finally be laid to rest.

It was proved that ducks quack doesn't echo. Check out Brainiac website - not sure of the addy. John Tickle (yes, his real name) took a duck to Westminster Abbey and was turned away when he explained what he wanted to do - as in take said duck up to the whispering gallery...but after a hard days trudging and quacking..he and the duck ended up in a underground train station in a subway..where it was proved beyond a doubt - ducks quacks do not echo...

Dylan, that's baloney. They do echo, like any other noise. There's nothing magical about a duck's quack that would prevent it from echoing.

Mythbusters recorded duck quacks echoing on their show, as well.

So, they most certainly DO echo.

Only magical duck's quacks don't echo, plain old normal ducks make plain old normal noises, and plain old normal noises can't help but to echo under the right circumstances.

Don't know whether they do nor don't, quite honestly, couldn't care less. The question is on a par with "what colour do Smurf's go when they choke?"

I'm more concerned with the answer you got saying that they fed the ducks with their kids three times a week, shouldn't ducks and geese just get bread and does the RSPCC know of this cruelty... Also, what echo's, the kids or the ducks and geese?

if you follow a physics approach, then no. sound waves will bounce off of walls. it may be possible that the frequency of the sound changes from the combining of both the forward and reflective sound waves to a point to where it is no longer conceptable by the human ear. it is also possible that if the duck was standing at the right distance with the right frequency that the sound wave would be equal however the reflecting wave would be equal and inverse, cancelling out the wave being sent. this situation would be very very hard to accomplish and would not be an every time issue

It is wrong because I feed the ducks and geese at least 3 times a week with my kids and they definitely echo!

Take some ducks to the Grand Canyon and find out.

No, but if you quack at them properly they'll come to you looking for food.
