Bono probably wants the "glory" and what is wrong with that? He most likely also has genuine concern for the Aids epidemic, world hunger and other interests. Because he is well known he can be more helpful in spreading the word than most of the rest of us.

If you think Bono is a fake, then you probably never listened to any of his lyrics. You might as well say Martin Luther King, Ghandi, and others who were in a position to influence human rights were all fake, too. Problem is the arts don't get enough respect for people to understand that Bono is not a fake.

You've got to be kidding!!! Your parents must have dropped you on your head when you were a baby. Wake up and smell the coffee, amigo. You just don't know how good you have it. You don't get it!!! Poverty in the world will never be erradicated but it is a harsh reality. Bono is doing his very best to bring out awareness of the immense problem this earth has. It is MUCH more than YOU are doing, I bet. Be grateful, at least, for what you have and take your head out of your *ss. Try helping instead of complaining.
Bono deserves the Nobel Peace Prize!!!

Not everyone thinks like you do, fortunately. Some people take up causes and get into them, instead of sitting around doing nothing. U2 is still as popular as ever, and his music is not in the toilet.
On the otherhand, I dont think charity will make much difference because of corruption at the government level. No, not US government. Corrupt governments that receive aid from generous donators. Its these corrupt governments that are primarily responsible for the poverty in the first place. They dont care that their citizens are starving and destitude. I blame them, and nothing will ever change while they remain in power.
Personally, I gave up on giving, for that reason. It is not because I dont want to help the poor, its because I know the poor aren't being helped anyways. Yeah, there are the photo shoots showing smiling children eating food, or working building schools. But those are only photo shoots. In reality very little is being accomplished at all, considering the billions of dollars donated by the generous peoples around the world. Corrupt political leaders and their ilk are bankrolling most of it, while bargeloads of food rot at the ports because the corrupt dock workers demand payment to offload it. I wont give a dime to them until the corruption is gone.
But I respect what people like Bona are trying to do. My hats off to their kind hearts and generosity.

If you actually listened to Bono, you would realize that he isn't campaigning to make poverty history to make money or gain more fame. He's actually USING HIS FAME to get people to help make poverty history. He's trying to get people to let their respective governing parties know that poverty isn't acceptable and we're ready and willing to help those who don't have a voice. Actually take the time to listen to him... you might learn something.
Oh, and I think their music is just as good today as it was back in the '80s. Just because you're Anti-Bono or Anti-U2 doesn't mean that you can't do something to help those that the world has forgotten.

Having met him several times in person and seen his sincere support for Amnesty International, I think that Bono is serious with this campaign and really believes that he can help to change the world for the better.
If he really can and does is a different matter altogether. Knowing Africa I have my doubts.

It is a shame that we have a society that doesn't give a crap about these issues of global povery unless a rock star steps up and starts addressing them.
Read Bono's interview in the November Rolling Stone magazine and you will begin to see the story of this man's life that suggests he is dead serious about this.

Bono is serious. well if his not then its a shame for him because some of us are really serious with this situation.
It does not mean that if he tries to do what he is doing it to improve the world in many ways.
I actually encourage him and am supporting him all the way through.
