According to OT and NT law [as in the Holy Bible]-- the poor will always be with us-- that's why the LORD created laws to defend them.

I have lost all faith in Americans to see these fundamental Christian values. I mean just look at the first answerer here. People like that would rather have a 80 year old grandmother living under a bridge starving than give her food stamps. Or say a wife loses her husband who was the provider, these ppl would rather see that wife and her 3 kids living in a box starving.

I'm a true believer in the word of Jesus. And it saddens me enormously at the amount of greed our ppl have come to. Our nation was made great by taking care of our less fortunate. That is what makes us different than a third world country. But these ppl want to reap all this country's gains but not give back into what makes it great.

Poor is different from poverty. Poor is a comparative state, as opposed to rich. How rich is rich? How poor is poor? A poor person can have enough to eat, and a house to live in, but not have money for extras.
Poverty is a whole different ball game. And if you've never lived under conditions of poverty, seen them, or experienced them first hand, don't be blathering about NT and OT, because poverty is nothing that the LORD created, desired, or wants.
We need to abolish poverty because we need to be sure people have a basic standard of living. That children are not becoming sick and dying because their parents can't give them enough food, or proper food. We need to abolish poverty because we need to ensure that all people can have medical aid when they want it, and that parents don't have to watch children die because they couldn't get medical treatment, or children to become orphaned because their parents died from some treatable disease.
We need to abolish poverty so some of the world's poorer nations can begin to bring education to their people, and to give them training that will help them have useful, productive lives.
Everyone can't be rich, that's a given. And watching the antics of some of the rich folks, I'm not sure I'd even want that life style.
But everyone does deserve to have a basic degree of security in their society. They may be poor, but that's an acceptable lot in life. Poverty isn't.

I think you got this mixed up. What laws protect us if we are poor and can only have a lawyer given to us pro bono, Jails are full with POOR people. Rich get out of jail. Try and get Medicaid and then try and find a doctor or dentist who will handle you on Medicaid. Try and get help with a heating bill in the winter and see who will defend you or take care of you. I am guessing you are not in the poverty level.

Poverty is a western concept. American's and Canadians feel that anything that isn't waht they would expect for themselves in a 3rd world country is poor... how long have people been living in huts in Africa? Just because they don't have store bought clothes and a water system like we have doesn't mean they are poor.. poverty is perception.. and maybe we should stop meddling with things. God separated us for a reason..

ALSO: if there were no poor then there wouldn't be the rich. then who would you brag to about your new car

Because people DIE from it? That could be a reason. Did it ever occur to you that just because the bible says it doesn't mean that God doesn't want us to work to rid the world of poverty? I think YOU should experience it and then decide if you don't want to end it. It's a lot easier to make excuses like this when you aren't the one suffering from it.

How did you feel that christmas when you didn't get the one big thing you wanted? Imagine that very thing every year for some kid. Imagine your child has an illness, you need medicine to help them, but you can't afford it and you can't get assistance. And you have to watch them suffer. Imagine you getting sick and you can't get medical attention because you can't pay and get denied help. Imagine some child going to bed on the ground night after night hungry.
The Lord may have said the meek shall inherit the earth but why not help them here now.

Poverty should be eliminated because it is the origin of all the evil things in the society. It could lead to the in balance and ultimately cause danger on the existence of our planet.

All we need to do is pass a law that states poverty is illegal. Anybody who is still in poverty the next day goes to jail. Simple!

Yes, people need to be responsible for themselves but how can they work if they are starving to death? What about the elderly, sick, handicapped and mentally challenged people? People have to be healthy in order to work. Food and health care first, work second.
