A National Geographics article, published in 2006, claims that about 200k years, or about 8,000 to 10,000 generations ago, there were 200 or so first modern humans in Africa. Any more data on this?

Humanity could possibly be 100, 000. I think that's the Paleolithic age. This was followed by the Mesolithic age and the Neolithic age. After that was the Modern Age, and I think we are in the Space Age.

Qutifying evolution, the humans first evolved about 4 million years ago. I think that was when we had a common ancestor with the Apes. After the separation, humanity evolved into Homo Sapiens a million years ago.

Well that depends on what you call human......generally speaking the physical form seems to have evolved first ( I have heard up to 500,000 years ago), then the speach and language centers evolved (about 100K years ago). There is a lot of evidance of the former, but HARD evidance of the latter is lacking. It is basically conjecture basied on the rise of culture. Culture make humanity in my book.

Theyre are generations built one upon the other. Right wing christians most say about 5000 years Some science types say much longer. I say only about 3000 years because I am a stubborn sort of sod and believe time of man as we know it did not start untill we stopped wandering and started farming so naynie nanie yum yum to the rest of you out there!

That is Homo Sapiens age. Humanity exist before, but our scientific methods cannot measure this yet.
