Try looking into cruises. There's a lot of single cruises, and they're actually not as expensive as you might think they'd be. I suggest Carnival cruises. They're laidback, fun, and cheaper than many others. See if you can find someone else to go with you though. Like someone above me said, it's not always safe to travel alone. Can you bring a friend, sister, brother, cousin, neighbor...?
Another great place is Niagara Falls, Canada (but unfortunately you need a passport now). There's a lot of stuff you can do there alone and it's still relatively cheap (depending on which hotel you go to and how long you want to stay). If you do decide to go there (now or in the future), you have to go to the Skylon Tower and Minolta Tower. They have the most amazing view and fantastic food! You can also go on the Maid of the Mist. It's a 20-30 minute boatride that takes you right up next to the falls almost so you can really experience how huge they are (just don't bring anything that you can't afford to get wet, because you WILL get soaked). For Niagara Falls, even if pictures say a thousand words, it's just not enough. You can also go "Behind the Falls". There's a tunnel that leads you behind and beside the falls (where you will also get wet). See the IMAX movie about Niagara Falls too if you have time. It's fantastic and really interesting. There's a little museum attached too that you can go through and see the actual barrels that people have gone over the falls in and see all kinds of other interesting stuff. Check out Clifton Hill too. Tons of great restaurants, stores, attractions, and more!
Have fun!!

I'm from Vancouver
it's a nice area, safe, friendly, English is spoken, you don't need a passport if you are American...
its a big city with lots of multiculturalism, good cheap eats.
there is an abundance of amazing natural scenery, much of which is accesssible by local transit.. from mountains, to beaches to forests.
Museums, native arts and cultures, lots to see and do - much of which wouldn't cost you a thing. People are firendly and there are a lot of travellers here wiht accomodations ranging from backpacker hostels to B&Bs to motels, hotels etc.
depending on where you are travelling from - not too expensive to get here within north america - train plane bus automobile, train from Seattle is about $36. Plus if you are American - your dollar is worth more here ¢90 US = $1 Cdn
EDIT:
oh, it would seem maybe that you are actually living in Vancouver... gee why not take one of those all inclusive package Vacations to Mexico or Cuba.. stay in the compound, bring a book, get a tan, swim ....

Depending on where you are wanting to travel - Cuba is a wonderful spot. In particular I like the hotel Brisas, Holguin, Guardalavaca.
I travel alone and have been going here for the past 7 years.
My airfare for 2 weeks all inclusive including taxes was $1277.00. You do of course need a passport.

Alone is never completely safe, and there aren't any safe places left in the world. Your best bet is to try to find at least one more person to go with you on vacation, but if that is not possible, I would contact a travel agency.

Mexico is always a good choice. You can go to Mexico City from most major cities in the US cheaply, and it's a cheap place to visit. By yourself, if you use common sense, you'll be fine. I think that applies to just about any place you want to visit.
Try the website below, it will certainly help you! Good luck!

DO NOT GO FAR AWAY.
Check into a hotel, on the Outskirts, of your city. Enjoy good movies about Vacations....& SAVE THAT MONEY, AS YOUR FRIEND, IN NEED.
Your well-wisher.

I would definitely look into taking a cruise. It's fun, you get to see lots of places, it's safe, and everything's included.
If you can get ahold of a costco membership, they have some GREAT deals on cruises.

Boracay is nice but crowded. I have heard great things about El Nido but I also heard its expensive. Based on what I have heard though El Nido would be a nice place. I can meet you there so you will have your hot guy....LOL
