It is in fact coupons from the french couper (to cut "koopay") CUEpons is completely wrong...it bothers me as much as people who say ofTen rather than offen and other lovelies such as filum and liberry. The origins of words are important and it also bothers me when that is ignored.

While I do know that Often can be pronounced either way according to most dictionary's, that doesn't mean I have to like it. ;-)

I say coupons. I pronounce a lot of things strangely as well, though. And yes, it annoys me when people pronounce things the wrong way. I don't correct them but I try to correct myself. My friend says "figgers" instead of figures, and I didn't know what he was saying at first. But I'm not one of those nitpicky english freaks, so I'm okay with it.

Oh and Leela, you're supposed to say ofTen not offen. That's how it's pronounced. Nothing wrong with that.

Coupons. I don't care how they pronounce it. My hubby is an Aussie, he pronounces all sorts of things funny compared to Americans. Guess I am used to it.

coupons. I don't correct anyone. They probably say it differently in different parts of the country/world.

I say Q-pons, which I guess is what you intend by cuepons. What pronounciation is coupons, COO-pons? I've never heard this one, but it doesn't bother me.
