It was meant to protect people from unkind words.... it has missed it's mark completely... instead it has prohibited freedom of speech.
Instead of searching your heart before speaking and being concerned about another's feelings, then telling the truth in a tacticful manner...Political Correctness is a way to avoid the truth by sugar coating and promotes lying instead.
I, in no way, support this....

I agree with your assertion that it attacks freedom of speech on certain levels. It should never be enforced in areas of free speech.
However, in the workplace or on school grounds, offensive language should be punished. If I had an employee that used an epithet against a fellow employee, they would be fired on the spot (or upon proof if I didn't witness it).
Those who are against "political correctness" only as an excuse for them to use foul language are lesser beings in my opinion.
Those who work to keep it's shackles out of forums where speech is fully free (it isn't in the workplace, school, etc.), I applaud as well.
There is nothing wrong with respect. But it's easy to over-do sensitivity.

I guess it does attack freedom of speech but I think it disguised the truth. Like too many other good things these days, it has gone too far. Why is the truth a problem? Sure, hearing it might hurt someone's feelings or make someone angry but at least you know where someone stands and you no that they aren't going to smile at you and lie.

It's not so much that I support political "correctness" but since the Neocons have managed to make being polite a bad thing, people have become vicious. It's upsetting that people are OK with the how mean the world is now.

Sure it does. Telling us we can't say certain things because they'll offend people?? C'mon, grow up! Political correctness is such a joke.
You know the people who strap bombs onto themselves and crash planes into towers? These are just "misguided criminals." Guess they need help, huh?

Political correctness is the best method to see the form ignoring the subject.
Do you remember such joke: do not say "women", say "vagino-people"?
Political correctness is not only stupid, it is dangerous.
