Help me to understand the logic here. Don't they know that the pavement is harder than their head?

Helmets are hot, uncomfortable and in some minimal cases even can cause problems. They can fog up or get dirty and so on. I agree that riding without one is not the smartest thing to do but if you have ridden for more than 1 year without an accident the probability of you having one drops dramatically. I believe the statistic is that 80% of most motorcycle accidents occur in the first year of riding. And if that's not enough, imagine riding along at about 40 miles per hour and out of no where a bee gets inside your helmet. This happened to me and I almost wrecked trying to get the little bastard out.
So again, using a helmet is the smart way to go but it's not perfect. Then you also have to factor in the general feeling of the wind on your face and in your hair. It doesn't sound like much but it's huge. Trust me.

A friend who rides a motorcycle (he DOES wear a helmet) answered that those bikers would rather die from impact w/out a helmet than live in pain for possibly the rest of their lives... Genius! o.0

The air going through your hair is a pretty nice sensation. I have never been in a motorcycle, I don't like those things. But I've exeperienced it through a car's roof window and it's pretty nice.
But still it's because they're idiots that care way too much about the way they look...

Just refer to them as choosing to be like Cartman of South Park during the episode that he competed in a special ed Olympics event while faking as a water-head;) "Daww Daah Daww!" LOL
