it is a common misunderstanding that people go by the onboard memory and not the video processor itself.

performance is calculated from the processor not from the amount of memory it has...a 6800 128mb will trash a 5700le 256mb in all aspects.

now, if you're a gamer, you should definetely upgrade. check if its an AGP video card and get a replacement AGP video card (the best bang for the buck AGP video card right now is the ATI x1600pro).

...if you're not a gamer...a 5200 should be fine

It all depends on what you do with your graphics card. If you play a lot of first person shooter games and want to run it in a high resolution then it definitely is not good enough.

If you want to play DVD's or you just use plain 2-D applications then it's more than good enough.

It's worth noting that the next version of Windows called Vista will require at least 128 MB of memory and hardware support for DirectX 9, if you want to run it in all its glory with Aero (GUI). Your card meets these requirements.

A step up from FX 5200 would be the GeForce 6 Series and a step above that would be GeForce 7. By the way Nvidia GeForce 2 is older than your card and that would be considered a "downgrade" not an "upgrade".

Yes you should your card can not play the latest games... And by Christmas you will be way behind!!! Make sure that the upgraded card has the same slot as your motherboard AGP PCI-e etc. You might also want to consider upgrading your motherboard at the same time. Check out this store for great prices:

I think you're good, 128MB is basic, few if any games need more. At this point you should only get more if you really REALLY REALLY want more. Personally I think that getting more would be a waste of money.
