My friend lives 12 hours away from me, she is going through a divorce, and i agreed to visit her in August. She just called me to tell me that she has been shooting heron and cocaine. I do not do drugs anymore and i never did anything like that. I told her to check herself into a rehab facility, but i know she will not listen to me. I am scared she is going to kill herself. She made me promise not to tell anyone, but i think her family should know. She is up there by herself and far away from any family except her ex. I feel so helpless.

You need to talk to her, face to face. If she's a good friend she'll be able to listen to you and know that you care about her. If you think you could, maybe you should go up to her and stay there for a while and try to explain how you feel about it. You're right to be worried, and a rehab center is the best option, but maybe YOU need to help her for a while. Tell her what you feel about this situation. Tell her you're worried. Despite your friend's pleas to keep quiet, you should talk her family and have them talk to her, perhaps go with them for support. Explain to her that you felt that she was not safe and that she needs help. She'll listen eventually. And remember, even if she yells at you or whatever the reaction, that you are doing this for her, not to her. And that her life is more important than anything right now. When she gets better, she'll understand and she'll even thank you. And then it will all be worthwhile.

u need to be down there with her then if u say she your friend ,friend dont do that if u know she needs your help help her then cause i do smoke but i dont shoot up in thing in my body if i do iknow im going to be dieing soon realsoon so yea i have friend s like that but i help my friends all the time the good thing bout it is that they have listen to me and stop thats cause i was therefore them not all long distANCE

wow. that's tough. she needs a support group and some treatment... if i had a friend far away from family, i would, in fact, tell the family... it's better to SAVE HER LIFE than to SAVE YOUR FACE..
