Absolutely. No doubt about it. A lot of the American social woes, stress, anxiety, loss of community, loss of family ties, poor communication within the family, is a direct result of how much we "must" work. There is this reverence to having a "work ethic," which carries so far that you're frowned upon if you ever complain about work in the workplace. You are frowned upon in most professional positions if you do take the two or three weeks you're allowed, and God forbid, you take them all at once and abandon ship. Lounging is foreign to Americans. Having fun doing nothing at all is foreign to Americans. They have to kick a ball or throw a frisbee or they feel they're wasting time. No three hour lunches or siesta here. The fact is that working all the hours we work has been proven unproductive. Man's marginal productivity is reduced dramatically when he works the hours we work here. And mothers who have to go to work with barely any paid maternity leave. And if they take it unpaid, they're looked at as less "cerebral," the cow type. Please stop me.

YES!! But my reasons for agreeing is not selfish - although 4 weeks vacation to start would be nice... Americans work a lot, true - but how much "personal" stuff do we do at work? Take phone calls, make a doctor's appt., schedule the cable guy - whatever. When employees are focused on conducting personal things from work, they are not able to focus on WORK. More time off would allow for relaxing vacations, but also to schedule a day of errands and appointments without feeling you just took a day away from the only family vacation time you had. "Sorry, kids - we can only go on a 4-day trip this year since Mommy had to take vacation time to go to the dentist."

you comprehend a variety of of the time human beings take their prejudice for the reality. As a french woman I hear from time to time harch stuff about US electorate. possibly i'd help you somewhat to make certain about the origines of thoses critics. I have a tendency to imagine it is going lower back to the Vietnam conflict, which has disillusioned many human beings international (and guy human beings, too..) And beforehand this, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagazaki. extra at present, the alternative taken to bypass on conflict in irak without the approval of the UN has disapointed many human beings also, like the refusal to signal the tokyo aggrement. So some human beings see the U. S. as a rustic which take selection regardless the others, and who abuse of it really is hegemonic status. i comprehend also that some anybody is disillusioned by using the particular undeniable actuality that the U. S. continues to be practising the shortcoming of existence penalty, which they think about as barbare. yet for sure that is extremely a techniques from an intensive perception of america, and not in any respect impartial in any respect. It would not refect the range in public opinion, too.

After 28 years with the same employer, I earn 4 weeks of vacation a year. Over the last year, I have taken a total of 3 weeks of vacation, but have also put in over 600 hours of overtime.

Something isn't right...

Yes, Americans should get a lot more paid vacation time. Many people feel overworked and stressed and it leads to an unhealthy home life, where children feel unloved and people do not get to spend enough time with their families. That ultimately will lead to the downfall of American society; societal problems stem from a lack of close family relationships and parental guidance.

Yup, and they should be allowed to take it any way they want (in days, weeks, the full month). A lot of people working two jobs out there, and get too stressed - some wind up in the hospital or at a shrinks office. They need time off.

More to the point, will Americans take a full month of vacation, or continue to work themselves like mad? Myself, I would love a full month of vacation!

Yes. It goes along with the flexible workplace line of thought. When people are happy, they're productive. Whenever I have something difficult to ask my boss, I always wait until she returns from vacation because she's in such a great mood! Just think of how this would improve the morale in the workplace!

Yes and we should have more flexable work time. Like 4 10's to have an extra day off during the week.

If vacation time is important to you, only work for a company that will let you take a month off every year or work for yourself.
