No it is not, but generally, most Americans tend to place blame and fault elsewhere for their hangups, etc. Dr. Phil tries to shake them back to reality. And truth be told, most Americans love wallowing in other people's misery/shallowness/hangups.
Don't knock on him too hard, he is a Texan you know.

Americans like Dr. Phil because we like to self-medicate, whether that's a good or bad thing. We like to put ourselves into a category and say "I do what I do because I am ......" (depressed, manic, bi-polar, psycho, etc). When there's a name for what we're feeling, it makes us happy. Also- he's very blunt. People are dying to hear the truth about their situations, and he doesn't sugar coat anything. When you suck- he tells you that you suck. (Not in those EXACT words, but you know what I mean). He also gives some actionable solutions to life's problems that most people who watch the show can apply. Personally I take Dr. Phil with a grain of salt. I don't believe everything he says and I don't follow every suggestion that would apply to me. Sometimes, I just like watching the train wrecks that are on his show.

Well first of all, you spelled his name wrong. It should be Dr. Phil you moron and second of all, Americans have better tv programs than from where you are. We strive on gossip and want to know everyone elses business. THats why you see most of the shows watch are reality shows...like Ameican Idol, Survior, Real World....crap like that. So, stop asking stupid questions and go back to watching boring European shows.

NO.
It is because he was a witness for Oprah Winfrey back when she was being sued for defamation by the Cattle industry in Texas. She met Phil and thought I could make money off of this guy so she put him on her show and the rest was history. Besides, they got rid of Geraldo and Jerry Springer, what else were people to watch?

People are trying to develop their minds not just their physical bodies anymore. I think watching shows like Dr Phil, Oprah, CNN, Court TV etc.. for ex are just ways Americans exercise their minds and obtain knowledge.
