The more yellow your urine is the more dehydrated you are. When it's clear it means you're getting plenty of water!

As long as the kidneys are working properly, more water you drink the more clear your urine will be. Exception would be if your taking some water soluable vitamins like a B complex, which will cause your urine to be a bright yellow - which is ok, it's just getting rid of excess. Yellow is still healthy which is what your Dr is saying. But you want to keep it more clear (white) a good way to show hydration. What you don't want is red, green or even black pee.

It's a simple solution... the more colorless the more hydrated you are. The more yellow you are, the less water there is in your body. If you maintain a strong yellow color, there is a good chance that you will develop kidney stones - something that is very painful to pass. Best to try and maintain a well hydrated body, meaning light yellow to colorless, if at all possible.
