Metallica is the best simply for there staying power. Dave Mustaine was kicked out, Cliff Burton Died, Jason Newstead quit and they lasted through all of that. Slipknot is a rip off band, and Slayer have lost there relevance.

Metallica, They have the biggest resume have been playing together the longest and have the biggest fan base. Now that we have those obvious reasons out of the way.
James got burned in canada in 92 fans were so mad they didnt get a show they rioted. Thats metal at its finest.
He wrote a ballad and the fans loved it. its showed the lighter side of metal music. Hetfield still pulled it off in a hard rock way.
They sell out all of their shows and have stayed together for over 20 years. They keep producing albums and are still a huge name int he industry they havent died out like aerosmith is doing.
P.O.D. is good but that whole christian label is kinda bringing down their metal side. POD is still an awesome rock band with tons of talent. Lamb of God and Slayer are each very popular and south to heaven is one of the hardest songs ever but they still dont compare to metallica.
Slipknot is talented and its hard to make 9 people play together all at once. However I am sticking with metallica.

Slayer by a long shot. They are by far the only band in those stated that are still metal.
Metallica were very good at their start, but since the Black Album, most of their fans -including myself- stopped loving them.
Lamb of God, Slipknot and these kind are labeled as nu-metal and are not to be considered seriously, i.m.o. As a die-hard metal fan, I can't stand them.

P.O.D. is good, much better now that they came out about the Christianity thing. Metallica, Gatte love the good ole boys who stick around since the freakin 70s. But personally, I would have to add -Disturbed- to your list. They are the ****!

Listen to them and you will be converted, slipknot wish they were this heavy, and metallica are pop-rock. P.O.D. aren't even metal.
