I have 2 chocolate Orandas. One male, one female. The male has what looks like a wart attached to under his back end before his tail fin. He's had it for a while now and it doesn't seem to bother him. He still chases the female when he gets a bit frisky, and he's still eating well. Any ideas on what it could be?

from the picture,it's definitely not that parasite. It actually looks as if there's been a tear and it's orange insides are coming out. He's had it for a while. He turned orange, where the female stayed brown. it's weird huh?

it sounds sorta like fish lice. Heres what one site I checked says:

Does your fish have a what looks like a 1/2 sized green pea bump on its side? If so, then you may have Fish Lice. Fish Lice can easily be removed by netting the fish and, with a wet hand, slide your fingernail under the lice and slip off. These can be slippery so be careful not to drop back into the tank. Dispose of the lice in the trash. Be sure to follow-up with medication from your local pet store.

There is a picture of it at http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a3/Argulus.jpg

The little creature on the fish's mouth is the louse.
There are also chemicals like clout and other parasite chemicals that can kill them, if that is what it is.

Hernias are a tearing in the muscle wall or tissue that usually holds an organ in place. I can imagine fish can get hernias, but what yours has does not sound like one. It sounds as if your fish has an ulcer or some sort. Usually a partial water change, with a little aquarium salt added into the new water will help clear it up.

It sounds a symptom of internal parasite. Does it look like a worm sticking out of it's butt? I would get a medicine from a fish store for parasites. It could be that it's constipated, try giving them a vegitarian flake food a couple times a week and/or smushed thawed frozen peas. Definitely check your water quality and consider starting a quarantine tank.

what ppl don't understand is it is not the lactose in the dairy.....it's the dairy PROTEIN anyways....giving up diary is fairly easy Silk makes wonderful soy milks that are 100% vegan stay away from processed foods eat raw fruits, veggies......makes smoothies with soy milks and fruits makes your own bread Amy's has a wonderful tasting dairy free organic pizza at this point i would stay away from all animal cheeses......maybe when she is bit older you could try goat and sheep cheeses so do your research on how to live a vegan lifestyle(or as vegan as you want to get) it'll just be good research on how to avoid dairy stuff hidden in processed foods and how make your own yummy food good luck honey
