READ the book by Jean Sasson MAYADA DAUGHTER OF IRAQ. This will give you insight into what life was like in Iraq before the fall of Bagdad. Which of you chose where and when you were born? None of you. You could have just as easily been born there instead. Your words about President Bush if applied to Saddam would mean imprisonment with torture or your tongue cut out. We can do all the bickering we want in this free country.about our government. The same had not been true in Iraq. You would most likely have been executed after severe torture. If I had been born under that dictator, my hope would that somebody would come and rescue me. What if you had been just walking to the store when the secret police picked you up and took you to prison to be tortured and killed because you were staring at them? Nobody knew where, how or why you disappeared? For talking about Saddam's dog could get your tongue cut out if overheard by his secret police or guard. Think of that for awhile. Young girls were kidnapped off the street and brought to his son's boat to be raped or even murdered after that violent act. What if that had been your sister, daughter, or other relative? You see his face everywhere on buildings and other things as if he is all around you like a python ready to strike at any moment. However, you should be thankful about having been spared that fate.

I think there are two possible answers
1) Bush felt that if he did not make an authoritative strike on a perceived terrorist threat (key word perceived), then America would be recognized as weak on terrorism. The hint of WMDs justified this. He felt that the world and the UN would eventually support him once they found the WMD. They're still looking.
2) It was a political issue and Bush needed something to give his presidency legitimacy. After boosting his popularity with the response to 9/11, he felt Iraq would only increase his standing as a strong leader. He was wrong.

That's been my biggest problem. I wasn't a fan of the war by any means, but had it been executed with any sense of a victory plan, peace plan, and withdrawl plan, I probably wouldn't have cared.
I don't understand how people can be so supportive of how this war has been carried out, even if they were initially for it.
For all of the initial success in Afghanistan (which we screwed up by withdrawing troops to take to Iraq), you would think there would have been some semblance of organization. Instead, it looks like they were so excited to get in there they forgot the planning stages altogether.
We all knew that we could topple Saddam with minimal difficulty. It was the complete lack of follow through that angers me so.
It's like someone who says they're going to remodel your kitchen, but all they do is send a wrecking ball through the entire house.

Grow up and get real along with that Kookoo bananas dude that writes crap..all of you are ridiculous and need to go take a class.
I swair, people ask the stupidest questions.

U.N. weapon inspectors have been threatened by Iraqi officials, electronically bugged, and systematically deceived. Peaceful efforts to disarm the Iraqi regime have failed again and again.. 12 years is a long time.. more than a dozen resolutions... We waited too long.. Bush is cleaning up prior presidents leftover failed policies.
The plan was simple .. Take out saddam .. clean out al quaeda Saddams weapons and turn the country back over to the iraqis once they can take the lead in thier own security..

Good question. I think it was an impulse that was acted upon, without thought of organization or cleaning up afterword.
Unfortunately many of his actions seem to be impulsive with little regard for the consequences, like domestic wiretapping, pressure on Iran, insulting the reporter in sunglasses with a vision condition, etc.

Why?? For revenge and oil...that simple. But for 2500 + American lives and 10 of thousands Iraqi lives...this President does not care! He has been a failure at everything in his life and continues that through his presidency....taking our country down with him. I just hope that in 2008 we can have fair elections and elect someone that has intelligence and no evil agenda!!
