Or do I have to go thru Verizon and pay way to much for a new phone?

Nope, buying a Verizon branded phone on eBay works just fine. Just be sure to purchase from a reputable seller, and make sure that they have deactivated the phone before you purchase it. I also recommend always paying for items on eBay with a credit card, so that you can file a complaint with them if there is any problem- they are much more on your side than Paypal will ever be.

You can buy it from eBay, then call Verizon and tell them your new Phone ESN number located inside the battery compartment. They then activate that new phone and your old phone will be deactivated. This is if you already have a service. If you don't have a service, it's cheaper to get the phone thru Verizon since they subsidize the phone on you anyway based on the 2 year agreement.
If you don't want to be in an agreement with verizon for more than 2 year, then I suggest getting your own phone before getting a new service from Verizon.
Verizon is a CDMA service, there is no SIM Card.

Yup! u can buy one. When u get it take it into ur verizon wireless store and tell them u would like to switch the new phone as ur cell. But when u buy on Ebay make sure it is compatable iwth verizon wireless.

yes you can buy one on ebay and then have it activated at verizon. just bring your old phone and your new one and you are set!

No, Verizon sucks and will not let you activate any phones except what they sell.

you should be able to take out the sim card and put it in the new phone just make sure the new phone is unlocked and compliant on your network

yeah i think that you can as long as you take it to the verizon peeps but i think that it will tie you into another two year contract

u can buy like unlocked phones that work w/ all phones planes(cingulae, vorizen...ect) but all long as u have your sim card in the back of your phone you can putt it in to that new phone and talk and ittle work fine
